Hope From Helen
The 6th annual Hope from Helen Surf Silent Auction was held on December 3, 2010, at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville
Beach. Hope from Helen is an organization that was established in honor of Helen Butler, who fought a courageous battle against lung and
breast cancer. Originally called Hope for Helen, Helen’s son, Tony Butler, began the nonprofit organization in 2005 to raise money to help his
mother’s battle. After she passed, the name was changed to Hope from Helen, and the event now raises money to support local and global organiza-tions
dedicated to health, education, animal welfare, the environment, and individuals and families in need. Throughout the evening, more than
1,000 people participated in the silent auction. Local musicians Bag of Toys and Billy and Brian of Shine entertained the guests. Food was provided,
free of charge, by WB’s Tower 7. This year, the silent auction raised $45,000. “It was the biggest turnout ever,” says Butler. “Although most of the
money benefits well-known organizations, we try to spread the love to newer charities. But it will all go to good places.”
