since 1998. He opened his current

A adult urology in Wilmington
partner with Glen Meade Center
for Women’s Health and co-founder/
director of Glen Meade
Incontinence Center, Timothy L. Chase,
MD, FACOG, practices both obstetrics and
gynecology. He has significant expertise
in the specialized field of diagnosing and
treating female urinary incontinence, as
well as repairing pelvic organ prolapse.
The most prevalent form of inconti-nence
among women is stress inconti-nence,
which results from extra pressure
on the bladder—such as sneezing, cough-ing,
laughing or exercising. In contrast,
women who have a very strong, imme-diate
need to empty their bladder and
experience uncontrolled urine loss as a
result may have urge incontinence, also
known as overactive bladder (OAB).
As the name suggests, mixed incon-tinence
is the condition of having
symptoms of both urge and stress
incontinence.
Dr. Chase is also a local pioneer
in the use of the da Vinci Robotic
Surgical System, powered by state-of-
the-art 3D robotic technology. He
performed two surgical firsts at New
Hanover Regional Medical Center: the
first robotic sacrocolpopexy (a proce-dure
to repair pelvic organ prolapse)
and the first robotic hysterectomy
(surgical removal of the uterus).
Serving as a preceptor and
national leader in his specialty, Dr. Chase
teaches surgeons from around the country
the latest techniques in minimally invasive
surgery for the treatment of stress inconti-nence
and pelvic organ prolapse.
