The green roof, or roof garden,
designed by Steve Mott of Mott
Landscaping, functions like a rain
garden to manage stormwater
run-off. The use of native and
drought tolerant plants nurtures
native insect habitats, which,
in turn, nourish native bird
populations and help restore bird/
insect ecosystems damaged by
over development of natural areas.

and Gordon Singletary of S&W
Ready Mix Concrete installed a
pervious driveway composed
of 40 percent fly ash instead of
concrete, which inhibits the flood
of water into the storm system
and recharges the soil and the
aquifer. The old concrete driveway
was scored and cut into pavers
arranged as a footpath around
the house.
