up front
Sit back and relax,
you are in for a treat.
W
e kick off your list of
summer reading by sharing
our May interview
with award-winning nonfiction journalist
and book author Mark Bowden. This master
of the written word thrilled us with an
in-office group interview that we will long
remember. Turn the pages to read what this
New York Times best-selling author has to
say about interviewing the President of the
United States, digging into the Columbian
drug world, piecing together the events
surrounding the Delta Force battle that
became his book and blockbuster movie:
“Black Hawk Down,” to telling the story of
Joey Coyle, who found a
million bucks in the street
that had fallen out of a
truck. From investigative
reporter in Philadelphia to
the world stage, Bowden
has done, and is still doing,
it all.
In honor of Father’s
Day, in addition to the
Bowden interview (he is
the father of five) we bring
you a feature that we nicknamed
Gritty Guys, by
Tyler Roberts. It is spectacularly
illustrated with
Joshua Curry’s superb
photography and the read
is riveting too.
You’ll find a 12,000-square foot waterfront
Home of Distinction that is cozy
and oh-so manly at the same time, all
the while never losing sight of its French
inspiration. And you’ll discover a backyard
makeover in Forest Hills titled, “In the
Pink,” with so many awesome features it
must be the envy of all who have enjoyed
themselves there.
A look at popular fishing spots and
their strange nicknames —The Steeples,
the School House, 23-Mile Rock — complete
with GPS coordinates, will have you

We have attached our own nickname to
a new outdoor fitness routine, we call the
Muni Fit. In the works for many months
— collaborating with personal trainers
LaMaine Williams and Leo Andrades —
we have created a regimen for those who
want to add to their daily or weekly Loop
walk. Building upon the urban landscape,
we identified approximately one dozen stations
along the Loop to use for exercising.
Having done the Muni for almost two
months now, I can attest to how much fun
it is to combine the same routines learned
in the gym with the beauty and openness
of the great outdoors. After a decade and
a half of walking the ribbon of concrete
that is the Loop, it was high time to add
to what I was already doing. We hope you
will join us out there and “Do the Muni!”
Summer is officially underway; let’s get
outside and make the most of it.
Be blessed!
