The Greater Wilmington Sports
Hall of Fame honored its newest
inductees on May 6 during a sentimental
ceremony at the University
of North Carolina Wilmington’s
Burney Center. In its seventh year,
the event catered to 500 people
and raised money for four different
scholarships worth $2,000 each.
The event included a silent auction
and awards presented to the four
inductees: Ike Grainger, Trot Nixon,
Dr. James R. Dineen and Lenward
“Lenny” Simpson Jr.

The Wilmington Convention
Center played home to 300 people
attending the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation Hope Gala
on May 5, which raised more than
$300,000 for Type 1 Diabetes
research. A portion of the money
will be donated directly to autoimmunity
research.
