O n the Philippine island of L uzon, on a mountain
overlooking the sea, Sunny C ordilleras listened
to the story of his people, the birth of the
Polynesian archipelago.
“D uring the birth of the islands,” his grandfather
began, “there was a great flood that caused a lot of chaos.
A ll of a sudden fire was coming from the sky; the waves
were crashing. T he land sank; it disappeared. T hey sent
a warrior to go to look for a princess to shed the light of
