Campa ign Kick -Off
On August 31 members of
the business and volunteering
communities gathered under
the stars in Airlie Gardens for the
annual United Way of the Cape
Fear Campaign Kickoff. The current
chairman and president of Coldwell
Banker Seacoast Realty, Tim Milam,
announced that the foundation’s
fundraising goal for the year would
be $2.4 million. United Way of the
Cape Fear plans to reach its goal
through partnerships with local
businesses to fund numerous
charitable programs.

One of Wilmington’s premiere
fundraising events, the Methodist
Home for Children, held its fifth
annual Epicurean Evening in the
Wilmington Convention Center on
September 7. Guests to the event
were wined and dined by the area’s
top chefs who competed for various
culinary titles involving every
aspect of food presentation and
preparation, from Best Entrée to Best
Table Decoration. The event raised
a record $65,000 in support of programs
that serve more than 1,400
children and young people each
year through foster care, adoption,
family preservation, gang prevention
and early childhood care.
