Angie Davis, owner of Indigo Salon, always smiles when people
ask her if she is a crunchy, tree hugger.
“If that means avoiding harsh chemicals on the skin and
scalp as well as protecting my health and the environment while gain-ing
healthy hair, then yes, I am crunchy,” Angie says.
While there is a growing trend to be green, Davis’ interest in being
earth-friendly and natural started when she was young, growing up in
rural mountain farmland. After 22 years of being involved in the salon
business — that includes owning a chemically-based salon — Angie
realized the negative effects on her own health. She was convinced
there had to be a way to have beauty without toxicity.
Ammonia, a hair-eroding chemical which destroys the hair shaft, is
the base of many beauty products. Instead, when she opened the first
certified organic salon in Wrightsville Beach, Davis stocked her shelves
with natural alternatives.
One of the first questions newly interested clients will ask is: “Do they
really work as well?”
“They feel they may have to sacrifice quality in hair color or styling
products to become healthier,” Davis says. “It not only lasts longer than
chemical hair color, clients rave about the health, shine and affordability
of my hair color and hair care products.”
With earth-friendly additives such as tangerine, lavender, hibiscus
and sweet almond oil, the experience of having your hair colored is aro-matically
pleasant, not fumigating and dangerous. The second question
most clients ask is: “Does it cost more?”
Davis explains, “Since the color is more of a treatment on the hair, it
actually lasts longer.”
This means fewer trips to the salon, which amounts to less money
spent with more beautiful, healthy results. And it’s greener than ever
to make an appointment. Visit Indigo at www.Indigosalon.biz as well
as Facebook and make an appointment 24-hours a day, seven days a
week! Salon made organically simple!
