AUCTION
The local surfing community
filled the lobby, ballroom and
first-floor hallways of the Blockade
Runner Beach Resort during the
eigth annual Hope from Helen
Surf Silent Auction on Friday,
December 7. Event founder,
Tony Butler, said this year’s Hope
from Helen was one of the top
three grossing events with
approximately $37,000 raised for
the nonprofit Hope from Helen
Foundation. The foundation will
disperse all funds raised to chari-table
organizations throughout
the community like New Hanover
Regional Medical Center Pink
Ribbon Project, Adopt an Angel,
Surfers Healing and Ocean Cure.

The members of the Wrightsville
Beach Fire Department gathered
in the third floor banquet room
of the Oceanic Restaurant on
Saturday, December 8, for the
annual awards ceremony and
dinner. Jeffrey Williams received
the Firefighter of the Year Award
for his service to the department.
Other awards included the Service
Commendation Reward won by
firefighter Garrett McQueen; and
the 200 Club Award for more than
200 hours of fire service training
during the year, which was given
to firefighters Williams, McQueen
and Trey Shipp.
