up front
O
ur staff is no exception. I don’t
know about you, but when
the outdoors beckons so invitingly,
it’s all we can do to keep focused on
the task at hand.
Three of us are halfway through our fitness
challenge, which means we’ve been
rearranging our schedules to disappear
for an hour each day to get in a trip to the
gym or to walk the Loop. You’ll see our
updates in this month’s Beach Bites.
This very special March issue leads
off with the previously untold story of
the exquisitely wrought North Carolina
silver serving pieces and the collection’s
storied history, by Michelle
Saxton. The magnificence of these
pieces is conveyed in Allison Breiner
Potter’s photography, which was no
easy task due to the reflective nature
of polished surfaces.
This issue contains the conclusion
to Colonial Ghosts: The Forgotten Tale of
Brunswick Town, by Jason Frye, which
should have you planning a picnic get-away
to this intriguing site this spring — it
certainly is on my agenda.
Also, you’ll find one of the most
moving stories in recent memory: that
of Monica Caison and the CUE Center,
illustrated with actual location shots of
Caison, other volunteers and one of the
cadaver dogs, Heidi. Words fail in an
attempt to place a value on the service
that Caison, the CUE Center and an army
of volunteers, perform for the community
and nation.

WBM march 2011
For this issue, Gregory Tyler Loftis
scoured downtown Wilmington to catalogue
for our readers the superb eateries
that have located in the historic riverfront
district. Grab your wallet on your way out
the door.
We’ve always know Anne Sorhagen
has impeccable taste, but even we
were bowled over when we saw the
renovations to her marsh-front home off
Greenville Loop, which you find in our
Home of Distinction this month, by Emily
Parry. Don’t miss the before shot, it really
hammers home the importance of hiring
an architect when doing a remodel.
I’ll see you out there enjoying this glorious
weather!
