The sun-drenched kitchen overlooks the Bakers’ Airlie lawn shaded
by giant twin oaks. This is the most used room in the house, where
the extended family gathers for a Fourth of July feast of fried
chicken, barbecue, potato salad, deviled eggs and watermelon. In
quiet times, Estelle Baker calls it her “think place.” The formal dining
room, opposite, is reserved for special occasions.
