on the cover
To create a classic cover shot
commemorating the 100th year of
scouting, we needed the help of, well,
the Boy Scouts. And, typical of the
Scouts, they came through with flying
colors. Scout dads Scott Diggs and Jim
Ratcliff ferried Troop 232 to Masonboro
Island, along with Scoutmaster John
Bennett and volunteers Chad Paul
and Tony Saffo. It was a hot Saturday,
August 7, 7:15 p.m., when WBM director
of photography Allison Breiner Potter,
using a Nikon D300 with an 18-70mm
lens, captured this perfect Boy Scouts
portrait. From left to right, Tanner Paul
— wearing a Merit Star passed down to
him from his grandfather, who originally
earned the star in 1954 — Connor Paul,
John Bennett and Eagle Scouts Kevin
Black and Parker Luhring. Here’s to the
next 100 years! —RL

place was an athletic event unto itself. But here they are,
from September 2010 through April 2011.
