POLISH FESTIVAL

St. Stanislaus Catholic Church
St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will host its
16th annual Polish Festival from 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. on Saturday, November 2. The event
attracts thousands of visitors who come to
enjoy authentic Polish foods, drinks and a
vast assortment of desserts while listening
and dancing to the Chardon Polka Band from
Ohio. The band is new to the festival this
year. There will be a craft sale, entertainment
for children, and festival goers are invited to
try their luck on the raffle. The grand prize
will be $2,000 in cash, with second and third
prizes of $1,000 and $500, respectively.

On November 2, the Cape Fear Garden
Club Beautification Endowment will host
its first fund raising event, “Moonlight in the
Garden Gala.” This evening of celebration,
live music, dinner and dancing will take place
in one of Wilmington’s most beautiful public
spaces, the New Hanover County Arboretum.
All proceeds will be contributed to the
Beautification Endowment Fund. In 2011,
the Cape Fear Garden Club Beautification
Endowment was created to provide perpetual
funding to promote wide scale enhancement
and maintenance of the landscapes of city
gateways, medians, byways and public spaces.

The Willie Stargell Foundation is a non-profit
organization that raises money and
awareness for kidney disease. Following
last year's tournament, the foundation
gifted more than $60,000 to organizations
that help care for kidney disease patients.
Willie Stargell is a Hall of Fame inducted
Pittsburgh Pirate who passed away
from kidney disease in 2001, and is the
inspiration for the tournament. The three-day
event begins Friday night with a
special sponsor and celebrity VIP reception.
Saturday continues with an auction dinner
and dance as well as celebrity autograph
session, and concludes Sunday with
the famed Celebrity Golf Tournament,

dinner with music, dancing, live
and silent auctions. “Safari Nights”
is the theme for the gala this year, with all
proceeds going toward WIHN’s programs,
which help needy and homeless families
in the Wilmington area transition to
independence. Last year, the event raised
$53,000 and this year’s goal is to raise

HUMANITY TURKEY TROT

Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity will host the
9th annual Turkey Trot 5k and 1-mile walk
at Wrightsville Beach Park on Thanksgiving
morning. The race will benefit Habitat for
Humanity’s mission of helping families to
build and own a home that will keep them
safe and sheltered. Since 1987, Cape Fear
Habitat for Humanity has constructed and
rehabilitated more than 150 homes for
families in the area. Registration starts at
7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30. The
registration fee is $25 until October 31,
then $30 from November 1-25. November
