Jody McDonald, one of Florida’s Top 10 DJs,
will return to spin disks. Forty percent of the
CAPP center’s operating funds are raised
during the gala. The remaining 60 percent
is supported by grants. Observing 35 years,
CAPP funds support breaking the chain of
child abuse through advocacy, education,
mentoring, empowerment and nutrition.
Cocktail attire is appropriate. Tickets are $150

The Motts Channel waterfront is the
setting for the second annual Taste of
Wrightsville Beach. Amid a showroom
for motor boats, local Wrightsville Beach
restaurateurs and chefs will showcase the
season’s best local seafood and bite-sized
appetizers. Mood music performed by the
Blue Tang Bandits will set the tone with
rock, reggae and R&B tunes. Expect to see
as many as 500 of your closest friends and
fellow Wrightsville Beach aficionados.
This year’s proceeds benefit Weekend
Meals on Wheels and the Wrightsville
Beach Downtown Beautification project.
Tickets for Wrightsville Beach Foundation
members are $45, all other adults are $50.

event on Saturday, October 12 at 6 p.m.
at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside. The
event will feature gourmet food and
wine, original works by DREAMS’ teaching
artists, a live auction, a DJ dance party and
live student performances. Guests who
only wish to attend the latter half of the
evening can arrive at 7:30 for dessert
and dancing. Ticket reservations include

Held for more than 20 years, the annual
3-mile trek attracted more than 1,800
participants and sponsors who helped
raise $175,000 during the 2012 Wilmington
walk. A children’s area, advocacy tent,
emcees and UNCW dancers entertain
walkers and spectators. Five Wilmington
Health lifestyle change awards will be
presented to nominated community
members who have taken control of their
