Swimming
the Channel
35
It’s 6 a.m., a hazy sunrise your sole companion, peering through
those first few rays of morning light, a slew of sleepy-eyed
people walking along Waynick Boulevard, dressed only in
bathing suits. These early risers make their way silently down
the embankment in front of the Blockade Runner Beach Resort
toward Banks Channel. Gathering on the small beach to stretch,
preparing to wade into the dark water and take off, this
strange parade of swimmers raises obvious questions.
Why would anyone want to go for a swim at the crack of dawn?
