The navy wool
knit suit’s princess
style is very
similar to the
middle suit in
this ad (right)
for U.S. Rubber.
By the mid-
1930s they
had perfected
lastex, paving
the way for
the modern
stretch fabrics
used today.
1920s wool knit tank
suit with skirt
There is no label on this wool knit tank suit
from the 20s. The style gave way to wool
knits with a defined bodice and princess-style
skirts in the 30s. The nubby wool,
lastex weave of this suit is completely
lined with a matching cotton knit that
forms panties underneath the skirt.
The straps crisscross in the back and
go through fabric tunnels before
tying in a bow. Double rows of
white stitching outline the bust,
skirt and hem.
