The Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame
will kick off its weekend festivities with a golf
tournament held at the Cape Fear National Golf
Course at Brunswick Forest on April 30. Players
have a chance to win luxury prizes like a new car
on each par three hole if they make a hole-inone.
On May 1, the 2011 hall of fame inductees,
Sheila Boles, Bill Dooley, David Esposito and
Wilver Dornel “Pops” Stargell (posthumously),
will be honored in the Greater Wilmington
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. These
individuals have made a significant impact on
the caliber of athletics in the Greater Wilmington
area. A press conference will be held at 1 p.m.
with an opportunity to interview the inductees,
followed by a reception and silent auction at
5 p.m. and the induction ceremony and dinner
at 6:30 p.m. The emcee will be Mark Packer,
better known as the “Packman.” Golf tournament
registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and tee time

The Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red
Cross benefits from this fun, informal, beachthemed
soiree featuring the steel drum band
the Sea Pans. Food is provided by Murphy
Farms and Coastal Catering, plus an open
beverage bar. Guests will compete in the best

flip-flop contest and in other games for prizes.
The party starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per

Paw Jam
May 7 | Battleship Park
In its 10th year, P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Worth Saving)
of North Carolina will once again host Paw Jam,
an all-day event featuring live entertainment,
pet-related vendors and contests, arts, crafts
and plenty of food and beverages. Several
thousand people are expected to attend this
always-popular event. Last year, more than
$20,000 was raised to support local nonprofit
animal rescue groups. Entrance fee for humans
is $5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All leashed pets
