After the Storm
Divine Promise
photography by CISSY RUSSELL
Late in the afternoon of June 20, 2019, a strong thunderstorm swept
through, with high winds and tree-damaging lightning. In this photo, as the
sun goes down at the head of Hewletts Creek, a double rainbow appears to
straddle the mouth of the creek, holding the pink and gold light of sunset
within its arc. The book of Genesis tells us that after Noah’s flood, God put
the rainbow in the sky as the sign of His promise that He would never again
destroy the earth with flood; “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for
a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” Genesis 9:13–17
