HAVE ALWAYS BEEN an avid reader.
So it’s only natural we lead off this fine issue
with a look at Little Free Libraries. The
“take a book, leave a book” concept is a
great way to encourage reading, something
of a lost art. You may have noticed the charming little
house on a pole at the corner of West Henderson and
North Lumina and wondered what it was. But wonder
no further.
To commemorate Veterans Day this year we have
the story of five Vietnam vets who came home not to
parades and appreciation but to protests and hate dur-ing
the very unpopular and politicized war. We extend
to them and all the other heroes a very heartfelt thank
you for your sacrifice!
We also have a look at the Veterans Affairs clinic
located on the airport grounds, built in 2013.
Everyone who faithfully served their country in the
armed forces deserves quality medical care, and thank-fully
this area has made big progress in that area.
It wouldn’t be November for us without a pottery
story, and this year is no different. We have the story
of the Coastal Carolina Clay Guild, professional
and amateurs who make beautiful and practical clay
objects of art. No one should be surprised Hiroshi
was right there in the beginning. What a gift he has
been to the potters of Wilmington.
We also have the exciting story of an archaeology
group that allows volunteers to help as they dig up
Wilmington, finding treasures from the past.
As we look forward to Thanksgiving feasts, we
remember those around the world who struggle
to feed their families by updating the story of the
Full Belly Project people, and their incredible nut
sheller. Come see what new things this local non-profit
has created to fight poverty worldwide.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, this month’s Savor presents a new look at a staple of the Turkey Day table, green beans, complete with
a new recipe that will have cooks reaching for a pot.
It’s all wrapped together with an incredible waterfront Home of Distinction on Futch Creek, and our annual look at area business-men

The seasonal change is upon us, which can only mean
lighted boats and fireworks are on the horizon, yay!
