Spring is here, and that
means the 64th annual
Azalea Festival is in full
bloom. Beginning April 6,
one of the state’s largest,
most colorful and most beloved celebrations
will blanket the southeast coast of
North Carolina. Showcasing the arts, history
and culture of the Azalea Coast, the big
five-day event attracts tens of thousands of
visitors and delivers just as many smiles.
Just how big is big? Country music
star Darius Rucker takes the stage at the
University of North Carolina Wilmington
on Wednesday night. The Cole Bros. Circus
of the Stars performs under the big top at
the Wilmington Airport; The Avett Brothers
perform in concert at UNCW on Friday
night. A fabulous, festive street fair offers
fun food, vendors, bands, contests and
fireworks on Saturday and Sunday. Plus
the Wilmington Art Association’s annual
spring show at Perry Hall features more
than 100 regional artists; the Historic
Wilmington Foundation’s home tour, the
Cape Fear Garden Club’s Azalea Garden
Tour, Azalea belles and a must-see parade
complete the calendar.
