Our mission at Coastal Carolina Radiation Oncology
(CCRO) is to treat our patients with technologically
advanced radiation therapy in an expert, compas-sionate
and respectful manner with the goal of improving
and extending life. We believe that offering our patients the
opportunity to participate in high-quality clinical research
will improve cancer outcomes for our patients and society in
general.
CCRO is made up of many caring medical professionals.
Our radiation oncologists, the physician leaders, are second to
none. They have received their cancer specialty training at top
academic medical centers including universities of Arizona,
Chicago, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Syracuse and Wake Forest.
These physician scientists have authored more than 50 scientific
publications, as well as a recently published guidebook for newly diag-nosed
patients and their families entitled “When Cancer Hits Home.”
In addition to this excellent group of doctors, our department consists
of four board certified medical physicists, dosimetrists, and specialty-trained
radiation oncology nurses and therapists. Our patients invari-ably
praise these professionals for their efficient, compassionate care.
Our team’s commitment to improving cancer care for patients in
Southeastern North Carolina is proven by two major grants from
the National Cancer Institute. We are also particularly proud to
have received the American Society of Clinical Oncology Clinical
Trials Participation Award for 2010, the only radiation oncology
practice in the country to receive this distinction.
