THE vibe inside the second-floor master
bedroom epitomizes the theme of the
extreme reinterpretation that streams
throughout every room in the home. Interior
designer Jo Howell calls it: “old age meets new
soul.” The marriage of original 19th century qual-ities
to a very 21st century lifestyle is simultane-ously
romantic and contemporary. “I didn’t want
it to be too new,” Jo says. “I want it to tell a story.”
The black-and-white palette honors the original
coal burning firebox, now filled with pillared
candles. Restoration Hardware’s popular four
poster canopy bed is paired with Visual Comfort
wall sconces. An eclectic array combines an
authentic Hoosier cabinet repurposed as a
vanity in the sitting area furnished with a tradi-tional
wing chair and a contemporary white
leather ottoman. Throughout the home, original
red oak floors were refinished by Tom Jackson of
Jackson Floors, Inc.
