A
N IRIDESCENT woven
tile backsplash is
inspired by the sheen
of seashell chambers
found along the
nearby Atlantic seaboard, while the
interlaced pattern mimics a knotted
sailor’s bracelet. Two large clerestory
porthole windows welcome cascad-ing
sunlight from the home’s southern
exposure. The southwesterly facing
covered porch allows breezes to drift
through full-length folding doors to the
living and dining areas during the sum-mer
months. When closed, a unique
pass-through window reinterprets a
similar design found in vintage beach
homes. Custom ship's wheel details
anchor the kitchen island.
The crackled glass backsplash above
the range, with sea glass pigment to
echo the ship's wheel chandelier, was
a late addition to replace the original
marble backsplash. With a warm cham-pagne
finish, the chandelier encrusted
with actual sea glass floats above the
dining table between the kitchen and
the great room salon.
