We join the community in mourning the passing of Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue Captain Jeremy Owens.
I hoped to be welcoming Christmas physically restored to wholeness. While I am still recovering, I can say with certainty I am truly blessed this most holy season by those in the community who have been so kind and generous to me. You know who you are, including this incredible magazine team.
We have waited a long time to bring you images of the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in historic Wilson, N.C. I am really excited about this whimsical park and can’t wait to go there in person. Wilson is also home to an international outdoor photography display. These large-as-life photos will make you want to walk right into that forest trail or sit on the steel beam overlooking a cityscape.
Boughs of pine, short cut red roses, white sea ornaments and artisan angels are on view in the Christmas hearths feature. We have waited a year to share these inspired mantels with you. The story comes with some how-to ideas.
Our “Simple Christmas” article also can help get the holiday inspiration flowing.
The pandemic has shut down many things, but it cannot cancel love. Our feature on weddings during the shutdown includes one I attended in October. I have known and loved Tabitha Rouse since she was 16. Hers was one of the most lovely weddings I have ever been to. The bride was radiant, the groom moved to tears at the sight of her, the wedding party was beautiful; it was glorious.
On our cover is a gorgeous northern cardinal painted by Harbor Island outdoorsman David Starbuck. Read about his second career, a bear encounter, and enjoy the wildlife art.
Read how area shelters and feeding programs have kept to their mission despite the 2020 pandemic. These vital programs are near and very dear to my heart.
You are reading the 21st December issue of Wrightsville Beach Magazine! Whew! It’s been 21 amazing years — even if I have been AWOL for the last half of this one. My hope has always been that you will find lasting worth, enjoyment, and new ideas within our pages.
Make it a simple, profound Christmas. Enjoy each day as you share the Light of the World.
