IN MEMORY
Kevin Walker, a beloved member
of the Wrightsville Beach commu-nity,
is remembered for his entre-preneurial
spirit. On June 5, 2022,
Walker’s life was celebrated with a
memorial paddle out at sunrise in
front of the Surf Club at Wrights-ville
Beach. It was organized by
John Chaney and Alan Kessel.
Reggie Barnes is seen at the center
of the circle. Paddle outs are part
of Hawaiian surf culture to honor
those who made a positive impact
on lives and communities. Partic-ipants
often hold hands in a circle
past the line of breakers. Fresh
flowers or leis may be released
into the sea, along with the ashes
of the memorialized if available.
