Construction pumped water out of
the cofferdam surrounding the
Battleship North Carolina in June
2020, exposing the ship’s hull and
the bed of the Cape Fear River. At the
conclusion of repairs and painting,
water was released back into the
cofferdam on July 20, 2021, buoying
the construction equipment for
removal and submerging the grasses
that had grown up around the ship.
