FACELIFT MONTHS of nomadic practices
and scattered game sites are over
for the Cape Fear Sea Devils.
Cape Fear Community College’s
men’s and women’s basketball teams now have an
expanded and renovated space to call home.
The Joe and Barbara Schwartz Center just under-went
a major makeover with a 6,000 square-foot
expansion, a project lasting a little over a year and
costing nearly $4.3 million. The center opened
its doors in October 2000 as a 15,000 square-foot
space. With this year’s grand opening, the Sea
Devils have now returned to their home court with
a brand new floor, scoreboard, weight room, train-ing
room, three new locker rooms, referee locker
rooms, bleachers and more.
The space will be used by CFCC’s successful men
and women’s basketball teams, which were both
nationally ranked even while their home court
was unavailable, as well as for physical education
classes.

May 2018 by James C. Baker for $737,000

Wiggins Builders. The location will see a
builder’s spec home constructed on the
lot, says Ronnie Hunt. Realtors Hardee
Hunt and Williams represented the
buyer and sellers in the sale.
The property, with a tax-appraised
value of $796,000, had seen just two
previous sales. The property was first
purchased August 1, 1977 for $24,500,
then sold again August 1, 1983 for
$57,000. — WBM Staff
