Praise for Lt. Edward Manning Hardin
We received the copies of the Wrightsville
Beach Magazine while I was visiting my
mother, Virginia Hardin Hawfield. I’ve
attached a picture of us with the November
issue “Honoring Our Fathers, A Soldier’s
Story Edward Manning Hardin Part 1,”
Oct. 2019, http://www.wrightsvillebeach-magazine.
com/flash/2019-11/#/28/.
She celebrated her 98th birthday last
month.... and is still going strong. She
wrote the following, which she wanted
me to pass on to you and others at the
magazine:
“I was thrilled to read the article in
your excellent magazine on my father.
I had read most of the details piece by
piece. But it was wonderful the way
you put it together. Thank you. I’m
so proud of my son Ed and his
devotion to present this picture of his
grandfather.”
— Ed Hawfield grandson and
Virginia H. Hawfield daughter of
1st Lt. Edward Manning Hardin.

Signal Mountain, TN
Spectacular!!! A Soldier’s Story part 1 October 2019. I am going to do whatever
it takes to make a book out of the whole thing Edward Manning Hardin we both
read. And you are going to tell me how to get it done.

MIA Navy Corpsman
I was very impressed with your recent article on Vietnam War Huey pilot CWO
Wayne Lanier. “All Gave Some, Some Gave All,” July 2019, http://www.wrightsvil-lebeachmagazine.

As a fellow Huey pilot with combat experience in Afghanistan, his heroism and
selfless sacrifice deeply moved me.
Thank you to you and your staff for covering this important touchstone in
American history. — Ryan Casey, Major, United States Marine Corps Reserve
