up front
I have a friend, Tom Ryder who is
finishing a book that will be titled, “The
T
he premise, in a nutshell, is
that everything we do, from
birth forward can encourage
us to reach higher, to do more, focusing
on building strong character in children
while taking on the small and large challenges
of day-to-day life, one ever-growing
concentric circle at a time.
So it was, as I stepped way out of
my comfort zone, to walk the runway
at the Hilton wearing Vintage Values
(V.V.) recycled clothing and shoes
for the annual Domestic Violence
Shelter fund raising effort.
Most people don’t realize that the
three V.V. stores spread out in the
community support the Domestic
Violence Shelter. Besides being a
great place for the public to find
affordable new threads, the shops
also clothe the shelter’s domestic violence
victims from the store’s merchandise.
It is for this I donated first my
clothes, and now my time.
Although “modeling” for the fashion
show introduced me to new friends,
it was still an intimidating experience,
but like Ryder’s book, I have added a
big accomplishment to my circle of life,
giving a serious boost to my own self
confidence. If they will have me, I’ll
definitely be back next year.
You’ll find the same sort of esteem
building in the effort going on at the
Jacobi Warehouse in Wilmington,
where Kids Making It are participating
in an award-winning woodworking
effort, which not only builds
wonderful self esteem, but potentially
a trade as well.

Add to this five over-the-top lavish

And finally, a spoiler alert: before you
turn to the Savor section, have your car
keys and money handy, because if the
photographs of sundaes, ice cream cones
and sorbets don’t have you running out
the door, you may not be human.
