Residents of Old Wilmington’s Back Door Kitchen Tour
Put on your walking shoes and get ready for the 7th annual Back Door Kitchen Tour on Saturday October 20. Attendees will have the opportunity to admire the elegantly designed historic kitchens of downtown Wilmington at their leisure from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nine homes will be featured on the tour and guests are encouraged to visit as many homes as they choose at their own pace. Founded in 1973 the Residents of Old Wilmington organization established this tour to raise money for downtown projects. ROW volunteers greet guide and host the event. Local artist Alessandro Giambra painted the logo for the tour. Tickets can be purchased online at Wilmington-area Harris Teeter stores and on the day of the event at the Community Arts Center on Second Street. Taste of Wrightsville Beach
Stop Hunger Now
The inaugural Taste of Wrightsville Beach from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday October 27 welcomes all to sample food and beverages from more than 40 local restaurants and vendors in the Roberts Grocery/Loggerheads parking lot on the John Nesbitt Loop on North Lumina Avenue. Celebrity judges will rate the dishes with a Best in Show and participants will select the Peoples Choice award. In addition to the mouthwatering seafood the event will feature crafts a 50/50 raffle and live music. Tickets are $40 for general admission and $75 for VIP which offers a choice of oysters or seafood broil to the guests. Tickets can be purchased at www.wrightsvillebeachfoundation.org. Main sponsor Hutchens Senter Kellam and Pettit P.A. law firm has donated a generous amount to the events cause a collaborative idea hatched by New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority chairman John Andrews of South Beach Grill and former Wrightsville Beach Alderwoman Lisa Weeks. The proceeds are intended to support the Wrightsville Beach Beautification Project. In conjunction with Taste of Wrightsville Beach area churches and volunteerswill participate in Stop Hunger Now a dehydrated high protein nutritious meal packaging program used in crisis situations and in-school feeding programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world. FOR Masonboro
For Masonboro’s fundraiser will be held on Sunday October 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort. Proceeds from the event aredonated to the North Carolina Coastal Reserve (NCCR) for education stewardship and research activities on Masonboro Island.As the largest component of the NCCR Masonboro Island is an essentially pristine barrier island where sea turtles nest on the beach and sea beach amaranth plants grow on the dunes.This years event will feature live entertainment silent and live auctions and all new kids activities. Children will have the chance to touch sea creatures brought to the island by the North Carolina Aquarium. Delicious seafood will be in abundance that day as guests get to enjoy the peaceful coastal scenery. All proceeds from the event will go toward Masonboro Island research and education.
