Savor – Cheap Eats: J. Michaels Philly Deli

J. Michaels Philly Deli (3501 Oleander Drive) a popular locally owned eatery that has added two more locations around Wilmington (609 Piner Road and 8232 Market Street) promises to whet your whistle please your palate and “really Philly you up” without draining your wallet. By putting a twist on traditional Philadelphia food (cheese steaks anyone?) J. Michael and his partner Lou Nieper have been catering to the needs of Wilmingtonians for 30 years serving the Cape Fear Coasts best hoagies grinders and wraps (and plenty of other great stuff). “We were actually the first sports bar in Wilmington. We had the first flat screen ” J. Michael says. So what happens when a sports bar serves fabulous food at a fair price? Call it a long-time local love affair.



Best Bet: A large authentic Philly cheese steak. Its not called J. Michaels Philly Deli for nothing). $8.65


Cheapest: A cup of French onion soup is $2.10. A small cheese steak is $4.05. A burger is $3.45. A hot dog is $3.10.


Most Expensive: The Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich lightly fried smothered in cheese and dusted with honey mustard. $9.45


Healthiest: The Veggie Hoagie: bell peppers mushrooms black olives banana peppers sweet peppers. $6.10


Spiciest: The Philly Pizza Steak. By the second or third bite the peppers kick in and all bets are off. $8.95


Kid Friendly: J. Michaels offers a variety of items for children to choose from.


Speedy Eats: All of the food at J. Michaels is served fast but made fresh and can be prepared for take-away orders.


Alcohol: J. Michaels offers five different draft beers and a wide selection of bottled beers.
