ART ON DISPLAY AT
Landfall and Mayfaire
Two August events give art admirers the
opportunity to view new paintings and works
BY CHRISTINE R. GONZALEZ WORKS from local artists will be on display and
for purchase at two special events, the Landfall
Foundation’s Annual Art Show and Sale, sched-uled
for Aug. 25-27, and Art in Bloom’s pop-up
show in Mayfaire, which runs through Aug. 28.
Landfall art chair Chris Pfund expects thousands of people to
attend the show, which was created more than 20 years ago to
promote local emerging artists. Over 120 artists will have two works
on display with up to 10 items for sale at individual artist’s bins.
Works by Elizabeth Darrow, including It’s You,
will be on display at Art in Bloom’s pop-up show,
“Start With the Eyes: Elizabeth Darrow and Friends.”
“This year we have several emerging artists and several professional artists who are mostly locals. There are a few artists
from throughout the state,” she says.
Renowned artist Sterling Edwards will be judging the show.
The Art Show and Sale takes place in the Nicklaus Clubhouse at the Country Club of Landfall. The event is free and open to
the public.
The pop-up art show titled “Start With the Eyes: Elizabeth Darrow and Friends” will be installed at 820 Town Center Drive
(near Breadsmith) in Mayfaire from July 29 – Aug. 28.
Sponsored by the Art in Bloom Gallery, the event features Darrow’s whimsical look at
people and animals, new figurative work, and abstract expressionist works. Her animal
expressions are conversation starters. The surprise and alarm on the faces of the dog and
cat in It’s You highlight the whimsy and playful side of the artist, who was featured in the
January 2017 issue of Wrightsville Beach Magazine (“Experiment and Abandon: Exploring
the Potential of Paint”).
New works by painters Debra Bucci, Bradley Carter and Joan McLoughlin are featured at
the show, along with ceramic art by Brian Evans, Dianne Evans and Traudi Thornton.
