Cranes on the Cape Fear River
Water Delivery
The Zhen Hua 18 delivers two new neo-Panamax cranes to the Port of
Wilmington on March 29. The taller, longer boom arm length of the
cranes built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., will allow
the port to accommodate the simultaneous loading and unloading
of two ultra-Panamax container vessels, side-by-side. Approved
by the North Carolina General Assembly, the acquisition is part of
the Port Authority’s $200 million investment in infrastructure, Port
customers and the state and local economy. The new cranes, which
cost $33.8 million each, are expected to be fully operational by late
May. A third crane will be delivered later in the year.
