This is a letter sent to the homeowners of the Home of  Distinction featured in the May 2023 issue of Wrightsville Beach Magazine.

Dear Paula,

You surely will not remember me but I walked by your house shortly after you moved in. I stopped to chat as your husband carried in the white iron twin bed frames you had just bought at a tag sale.

So when I saw the article about the major renovations you’ve made on your beautiful home (Eclectic Excellence, May 2023 WBM) I had to drop you a line and say “amazing job!!

Hope you enjoy years of living in our fair city.

Best,

Dorian Beighley, Wilmington, NC

Update: Equine Officer Mourned

The Wilmington Police Department suffered a tragic loss of one of its equine patrol officers in mid-June.

Crescent standing at 16.2 hands was featured in Wrightsville Beach Magazine, May 2023, fell ill and did not survive. At 22 years old, the 16.3 Elton was Crescent’s half-brother, both bays.

Crescent was a natural carriage horse, calm on the streets and worked well with law enforcement.

Crescent was known as the peacemaker in the crew. He leaves behind a department that is grieving the loss of such an excellent officer.

The unit was founded by John Winekoff in 1988 when downtown Wilmington was plagued by crime.

See the May 2023 issue of WBM for the article Equine Officers on Patrol for more information about this special horse, and the Wilmington Police Department Mounted Unit.

We would love to hear from you!
