Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach’s Lloyd
Whitfield “Whit” Moore served in the battle-
field combat zones of Vietnam as part of the
3rd Marine Division during the Tet Offensive as
a Navy combat medic. Moore was posthumous-ly
awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V to
denote heroism for saving the lives of three
wounded Marines. As he was trying to reach a
fourth, an incoming mortar round took his life.
