Dolphin Day Care
A drone shot of a pod of mother-and-baby Atlantic bottlenose dolphins off
Wrightsville Beach’s north end in April 2018. Ranging from 6-13 feet long,
adult bottlenose dolphins can reach speeds over 20 mph and dive as deep
as 800 feet below the surface. They can hold their breath underwater for
around seven minutes. Dolphin labor can last anywhere from 20 minutes
to 2 hours. A bottlenose dolphin calf is born tail-first to prevent drowning.
