up front As we end our 15th December issue, the thought on my heart is joy — abundance of joy. A portion of that joy is in knowing what a remarkable team we have become, how well we work together to craft these memorable publications each and every month for you, our readers; and we love hearing from you. We never fail to exclaim over your letters and emails of encouragement; thank you for them. You’ll find this issue is rich and robust with ideas. As you nestle in with cups of steaming hot cocoa (try our homemade marshmallows, recipe on page 88) come with us to explore the sumptuous Knapdale, festooned to the max with an extravagant collection of Christmas treasures, a perfect pictorial to kick off your home decorating. Then, as you plan your holiday gatherings, you’ll find an easy open house menu with timeless recipes, gorgeously displayed, that will keep you out enjoying your guests, rather than stuck behind an apron. This issue is also alive with art in addition to a primer on the anatomy of an art collector featuring three of the area’s collectors, plus veteran gallery owner Merrimon Kennedy. We have breathtaking flower arrangements created just for you, inspired by the masters, Matisse, Renoir, van Gogh and van Dael. The issue is loaded with clever gift suggestions, glittering social scenes, a Q&A with a Broadway star, as well as our updated tri-county list of food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. For those who have every-thing they need, or those facing a holiday alone, may we suggest volunteering behind a soup line to know the true meaning of giving, not to mention abundant joy. My own ongoing foray into highly rewarding ministry began on just such a Thanksgiving morning 11 years ago. It may have been the very best thing that ever happened to me. No kidding. Joy to the world y’all, the Lord is come! Be blessed, Editor/Publisher 10 WBM december 2014 PHOTO BY ALLISON POTTER Pat Bradford adds a ball of joy to the Christmas tree.
