94 WBM november 2014 GOOD SHEPHERD’S THE FLAVOR OF NC Saturday, September 20, St. James parish in downtown Wilmington hosted The Flavor of NC, a gala benefitting the Good Shepherd Center. More than 225 attendees enjoyed cuisine prepared by a variety of local chefs, including Robert Pickens of Kornerstone Bistro, Brent Poteat of 22 North and Matthew Gould of Canape. The event included a silent auction, and live music from Jesse Stockson and Rick Courtney, and raised more than $46,000 to help the homeless in Wilmington. PHOTOS BY EMMY ERRANTE SHE ROCKS LUNCHEON Victoria Bae-jump, MD, Ph.D., associate professor with the University of North Carolina School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, served as the keynote speaker for more than 300 attendees at local nonprofit She ROCKS’ inaugural fundraising luncheon September 19. Hosted by the organization’s leader, Beth Quinn, ovarian cancer awareness was raised and nearly $70,000 in proceeds from the luncheon were earmarked for New Hanover Regional Center’s Zimmer Cancer Center and Dr. Bae-jump’s research in ovarian cancer at UNC.
