Courtney and Tim

Flirting happens at the gym but no one imagines they’ll meet their dream husband there. At least Courtney Kearney didn’t. “I was exercising and Tim (Kearney) noticed me ” Courtney says laughing. After some warming up she gave him a chance. Two and a half years later he proposed on Masonboro Island. The couple went out on a friend’s boat disembarked and Tim got down on one knee. “I thought he was picking up a shell but he asked me to marry him ” Courtney says. They were wed at Porter’s Neck Plantation. Self-made “message in a bottle” invitations played to the wedding’s beach theme as did the pouring together of unity sand rather than the traditional lighting of a unity candle. The couple honeymooned on St. Kitts in the Caribbean. Courtney is the assistant sales manager for Lumina News and Wrightsville Beach Magazine and Tim owns FitEquip a fitness equipment repair company located in Wilmington. — Rachel Dickerson

Cynthia and Corey

When Cynthia Anne Farr met Corey James Harrison at Wild Wing Café it was a match made in Carolina heaven. They were set up on a blind date perhaps because of their mutual love for the Carolina Tar Heels and the Atlanta Braves and “there was an instant connection ” says Cynthia. Six months later after dinner at Brasserie du Soleil the couple went for a walk and as they passed a fountain Corey got down on one knee. Cynthia told him to get up because he was in a puddle of water but to her surprise he proposed. The Carolina-blue themed wedding was held at noon so the couple could watch the Tar Heels basketball team play in the Sweet Sixteen that night. On the back porch of the Hanover Seaside Club 100 guests watched as Cynthia’s 4 1/2-year-old daughter walked her down the aisle. The pair wrote their own wedding vows and “after we read them there was not a dry eye in the house ” says Cynthia. The couple spent their honeymoon in Boston and Martha’s Vineyard and visited Fenway Park.
