Sponsored by the Wrightsville Beach Volunteer Firefighters Association, the event provided an opportunity to acknowledge and honor several individuals. Firefighter Calvin Smith received the Firefighter of the Year award along with Most Fire Alarm Responses and Most Duty Time awards. Receiving 200 Club awards were firefighters John Scull, Calvin Smith and Jeffrey Williams. Firefighter Thomas Long received the Service Commendation Award. Firefighter Marcus Scott received the Best Drill Attendance Award. Five-year service awards were presented to lead fire equipment operator Michael Garner, firefighter Adam Fink and firefighter Matthew Griffith. A 10-year service award was presented to Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue Director Dave Baker, and Captain Adam Brown was recognized for 25 years of service. Sarah Pugh, daughter of Captain Robert Pugh, and firefighter Garrett McQueen were recognized as recipients of Wrightsville Beach Fire Department Relief Fund Scholarships.
