21 Above: The symmetrical, Georgian-inspired palace has a somewhat stark façade. The sharp edges do little to detract from its grandeur, however. On 16 acres on the banks of the Neuse River, the historic grounds include the separate kitchen office, the stable office, 14 acres of gardens, and seven additional structures, including the Academy Museum. In addition, Tryon Palace opened the North Carolina History Center in 2010. Fireworks illuminate the palace during the annual candlelight Christmas celebration. www.wrightsvillebeachmagazine.com WBM
