upfront 11 www.wrightsvillebeachmagazine.com WBM his is a rich, lustrous holiday issue, first in homes. We stay local to look at a stunning, T newly restored beach home in Wrightsville Beach dressed impeccably for Christmas, then head to the magnificent Tryon Palace in New Bern, exquisitely adorned for the holidays with fruit, feathers, textiles and native greenery. The palace, with its daily reenactments and period holiday finery, is a must-go excursion up the coast. Another beautifully wrapped Christmas package for readers is our Art Treatise and Savor food features combined this month to present Palette to Palate. This feast for the senses was the brainchild of art director Shawn Best. We went to the staff of Cameron Art Museum and their talented chef, Jessica Cabo, to turn art into food and food into stunning art. Editorial director Simon Gonzalez’s look at the melodic organs and organists of Wilmington should rekindle a love for this great instrument of worship just in time for a carol or two. Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you! Editor/Publisher A hand-built double-ended, lapstrake convertible 13-foot rowing/sailing dory called a Peapod was the stage for this photo. PHOTO BY ALLISON POTTER My maritime sleigh, a 13-foot Peapod, is a loaner from the fabulous wooden boat-building program at Cape Fear Community College. I am hooked on this hand-built little rowing/sailing craft. Someday I hope to make it — or one like it — mine. So if you spy an odd sight streaking backwards through the calm waters around Wrightsville Beach, you’ll know it’s quite possibly me.
