Welcome to Wrightsville Beach Magazine

Theres no shortage of sportage here in New Hanover County. Marathons, biathlons, triathlons and tournaments for golf, tennis, rugby, running, surfing, softball and more fill the year from end to end. Because there is such a large number, putting them all in one place at the same time was an athletic event unto itself undertaken by Hannah Wethington, who pressed on to the finish line so we could present: WBMs Athletic Calendar for 2010 (beginning in March, of course).

About: Thousands of fans from across the state, region and country are expected to attend the 72-hole competition. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of championship competition. In the team competition, the four low scores for each team will count in each days score.

Life Rolls On They Will Surf Again (TWSA)

About: TWSA utilizes a surfing experience to push the boundary of possibility for those with spinal cord injuries. Its not all about the surfing, its about showing that anything is possible! Individuals with SCIs from around the country gather together for a day of surfing, inspiration and camaraderie. Some have not surfed since their injury, some have never surfed, some surf all the time despite their varying mobility. TWSA pairs roughly seven volunteers with each surfer, for a day of excitement, joy and, best of all, surf! Safety precautions and experienced watermen (and women), along with lifeguards are always present. No prior surfing experience is necessary.
